Fixing malpractice, GRT and compacts could keep doctors here

I attended a statewide Indivisible conference earlier this year in which a New Mexico trial attorney stated no, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association did not oppose interstate licensing compacts and that New Mexico does not need to amend our medical malpractice laws. Really?

Doctors in New Mexico pay nearly twice what other states pay for medical malpractice, and it’s not small potatoes. It’s more than what I make in year as a counselor for specialists, $150,000 annually. That’s a lot of money out of the pockets of doctors, which is a big part of why we don’t have many doctors in private practice anymore.
