TAOS, N.M. — The growing lack of healthcare access in New Mexico was center stage at a Bataan Hall last Thursday (Nov. 13).

The newly formed Patient-Led New Mexico hosted one of three Healthcare Summits in Taos in collaboration with Holy Cross Medical Center. The event put a spotlight on the experiences of patients and practitioners, why medical professionals are leaving the state, and what policy solutions might remedy what’s ailing healthcare in New Mexico.

In Taos and across the state, patients are waiting months for appointments, traveling hundreds of miles for care, and watching providers close their doors. Those challenges are intensified by rural isolation, workforce shortages and policy gaps that leave families with few options.
